 Message from the President

 Greetings West Arlington Residents:

My name is Sean Stinnett and I am the President of the West Arlington Improvement Association of Baltimore City, Inc. I have been the President since 2016 and I'm excited to continue to serve on the board as the President.  I grew up in West Arlington and moved back to the neighborhood with my wife, two daughters, and stepson in 2015.  By day, I work for the City of Baltimore and I am actively involved in many community initiatives not only in West Arlington but throughout Baltimore City.

Over the last six years, West Arlington has received welcomed attention from our elected state and local officials and Baltimore City agencies, such as DPW, DOT, the Northwestern Police District, and State's Attorney Office.  I would like to thank Senator Jill P. Carter and Delegate Tony Bridges for working with the community to obtain state funding to improve West Arlington.  I would also like to thank Councilwoman Sharon Green Middleton and her office for consistently being involved and actively addressing the needs of West Arlington residents.  I would also like to mention former Mayor Bernard "Jack" Young and our current Mayor Brandon M. Scott.  Without their support, West Arlington would not have made so many milestones throughout the years.

Some of those milestones include:

1.) traffic calming (stop signs) on Hillsdale Avenue;

2.) traffic calming (speed cameras and bike lanes) on Wabash Avenue;

3.) $500K bond bill for renovations to the Water Tower (project pending);

4.) $100K to renovate Penhurst Park (project pending);

5.) $30K to renovate the West Arlington Park (project pending);

6.) Multiple grant awards to support community events and the Baltimore Clean Streets;

7.) Distribution of food boxes and face masks during Covid;

8.) Multiple instances of getting illegal dumping and cars removed;

9.) Getting a guardrail installed at Granada and Elderon Avenues;

10.) Work with Baltimore Clean Water to advocate for backup sewage funding for residents; and

11.) so much more!!

There is still a lot of work to do and we need as many residents to participate and join the association.  In order to move forward, we need increased participation in the association and people willing to work and bring the community together.  West Arlington is filled with a rich history and we must do our part to preserve our neighborhood for the future.

Please consider joining the association and sign-up to be a block captain and/or a member on the Code Enforcement, Events, Public Safety, Special Projects, and Welcome Committees.  For more information, see the Standing Committees page.

As a reminder, please stay "in the know" by using this website and attending the meetings.  There is a lot of information shared that is beneficial to have for you and your family.  We are also on the NextDoor app and on Facebook. And last but not least, join the community listserve by emailing westarlington@gmail.com.

Sincerely,

Sean Stinnett

President
